Due to an unprecedented demand for lessons I have to announce that I am currently fully booked in the evenings, there are no evening slots available at the moment. I do still have some slots available early afternoons and weekday mornings and am very keen to do more online lessons.
I am a very committed and dedicated music teacher who offers you the opportunity to work towards achieving your goals both in the short term and in the long term. With this in mind, we keep notes during lessons to help you keep on track and monitor your progress from one lesson to the next and see how far you've come.
A little bit about me...
I've been a teacher of music for over 15 years mostly on a self employed basis but also teach at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge UK. The instruments I teach are: Guitar (electric, acoustic and Spanish/classical), 5 String Banjo (mostly Bluegrass finger style picking), Bass guitar, Mandolin and Ukulele. My specialism is jazz rock fusion guitar as this is the style that I perform in when I'm out gigging and is very much "my bag". Over the course of my teaching career I've taught and helped many students to achieve their ultimate goals. Many have gone on to study at the acclaimed Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) and some have even gone on to play with other chart topping acts themselves.
I have in more recent years caught the banjo bug and am particularly into the Scruggs/Bela Fleck style of playing. I'm also adept at the clawhammer style, I'm learning as I go but it's a very different approach to playing finger style :) The highlight of my banjo playing career was appearing on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway with Little Mix back in 2016 (go to video page and watch).
Children are more than welcome, in fact I teach in a primary school and am fully DBS (new CRB) checked. The youngest I teach is around 7 years old and the oldest I've taught was 73 years old. It's never too late! I'm very flexible with lesson schedules and they are tailored around you so can happen weekly, fortnightly or by appointment. I would advise regular lessons though and do ask for commitment to continuing lessons as not doing so is detrimental to your learning experience. If I take time off it will be during school holidays and I will give you at least a week's notice.
I also regularly prepare students for examinations if requested on all the instruments I teach. These include the following: ABRSM grades 1 to 8, Trinity grades 1 to 8, Trinity Rock and Pop all grades, Rockschool (Guitar/Bass/Ukulele) all grades, I also offer ABRSM music theory lessons to prepare for grade 5 music theory exams for those choosing to go beyond grade 5 level for ABRSM practical exams.
So, lessons can be half hour or an hour or longer if required (for advanced students). My rates are £20 for half an hour and £40 for an hour.
